It is here that the universal language of the world—soccer—is spoken daily. For Victor Mooney of Flushing, a man whose life has been defined by defying the impossible, these fields represent the ultimate ground for community unity. He has traded his oars for a pen, reaching out to a wide body of New York elected officials and stakeholders. Before the 2026 World Cup Finals at Met Life Stadium on July 19 in New Jersey, he hopes to galvanize partners to score goals for the community in sprucing up soccer fields. At the same, an organizing drive is underway to harness the next generation of park stewards and give them the tools for sustainability.
